Biography
Dr. Young K. Kim, a board-certified surgical prosthodontist (passed both restorative & new surgical board exam sections), is one of the very few specialists holding dual-doctorate degrees; 4-yrs in Doctor of Dental Medicine (DMD) from Boston Univ. School of Dental Medicine (Magna Cum Laude; the highest-ranking during the graduating year) and another 4-yrs in Doctor of Medical Sciences (DMSc) from Harvard School of Dental Medicine (president's scholar).
At Harvard, he earned a specialty certificate in Prosthodontics after intense surgical and restorative training, primarily focusing on extremely complex cases of tooth-supported & implant-supported full-mouth rehabilitation.
Besides reconstructive dentistry, Dr. Kim also has an in-depth knowledge of bone biology, periosteal wound healing, and tissue augmentation/engineering in implant dentistry. His doctorate research thesis at Harvard was "injectable bioactive gelatin-hyaluronan-calcium phosphate (GH-CP) and its osteogenic potential for flapless guided bone regeneration (GBR)," under the guidance of Dr. Myron Spector (Professor of Orthopedic Surgery - Biomaterial, Brigham and Women's Hospital, Harvard Medical School). Dr. Kim's novel innovative tissue-engineering research was awarded as 1st place winner at the regional American College of Prosthodontists annual session '19.
Dr. Kim is currently a clinical assistant professor at New York University College of Dentistry, Department of Prosthodontics.
Dr. Kim is also in private-practice located in Manhattan, transforming the quality of life on his patients, via rehabilitating their esthetics, occlusion, and function.
His clinical/research interests are Reconstructive Prosthodontics (tooth/implant-supported full-mouth rehabilitation via both conventional/digital workflows) & Surgical Prosthodontics (full-mouth guided surgery, pre-prosthetic surgery, and tissue augmentations) in implant dentistry.
He is currently a reviewer of the Journal of Prosthodontics and an active member of the American College of Prosthodontics, the American Dental Association and the Harvard Club of New York City.
